Largest ever foreign direct investment in Finland by an Estonian company goes live

Estonian energy conglomerate Alexela has commenced operations at Hamina LNG terminal, a milestone in the continued diversification of energy sources in the Nordic-Baltic region.


Delivered LNG will by passed to the Finnish transmission network where it also reaches Estonia via the Balticconnector. Additional LNG is trucked within Finland.


Hamina project development started in 2012 and accelerated in 2015 with a joint venture between Alexela and Haminan Energia, In 2017 Wärtsilä also became a shareholder.


Total investment in the terminal exceeds EUR 100 million, including EUR 27.7m early-stage invest by the Finnish state.
